Kate Sweet joined the wine trade as a Christmas temp at Oddbins in 1992. She immediately knew she had found her calling. From there, she joined the Oddbins Graduate Trainee scheme and the following Christmas was managing her own Oddbins store. In March 1995 she moved from Oddbins to Maisons Marques et Domaines as Marketing Assistant and, in 1997, was the part of the founding team at Brown-Forman Wines International, where she initially covered finance, logistics, customer services and marketing. This gave her an exceptional training in, and understanding of, the whole supply chain within the wine world. She remained with BFWI until October 2005 having attained the position of PR & Events Manager, overseeing other PR contractors.
In November 2005 Kate went freelance, working mainly with Limm Communications on regular accounts such as Torres, Louis Latour Agencies' portfolio - including Maison Louis Latour, Taylors/Wakefield, Banfi, Gosset Champagne, Frapin Cognac, and Fells' Portfolio of benchmark, family-owned brands including Hill-Smith Family Estates and Maisons & Domaines Henriot. Project work included events for In Pursuit of Balance, Famiglie Storiche, South Australia Government and DO Penedès. Kate also collaborated with Hilltop Wines, co-piloting the UK generic campaigns for the Oregon Wine Board and the Washington State Wine Commission for over a decade.
Kate has the WSET Diploma and is a regular judge for the Drinks Business Awards and Green Awards as well as for the International Wine Challenge and the People's Choice Wine Awards. She speaks French to a very good level and rusty Italian. She can also order beers in German.
Outside wine, Kate is an ambassador for the annual Goldsmith's Fair run by The Company of Goldsmiths. She is also a committee member and Run Director for Dulwich parkrun where she oversees a team of Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteers. She is a very amateur potter, quilter and gardener. She enjoys art, theatre, cooking, and provides staffing services for her two feline employers.
